Mahone Foundation Leadership Updates

The Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Foundation, a proud fiscal partner of the United Way of Kenosha County, announces leadership updates as the organization enters a pivotal phase of growth and works toward independent 501(c)(3) status. Carthage College President Dr. John Swallow will serve as board president, and Michael Bond, director of community relations at Snap-on Incorporated, has joined the board.

“Dr. Swallow’s dedication to my family’s mission of creating greater access to education in our community has been invaluable during his time serving as a board member,” said Mahone Foundation Chairman Tim Mahone. “Michael Bond has been a friend of the Mahone family ever since he joined Snap-on 15 years ago. He genuinely cares about our community. The respect he has earned among business leaders will help guide future strategic decisions.

“I am confident that these two gentlemen will continue the goal of expanding the regional and statewide presence of the Mahone Foundation.”

Dr. Swallow has been a member of the Mahone advisory board for the past eight years. Carthage College has been the site of the organization’s Reaching for Rainbows “Pursuit of Excellence” Gala since 2001.

“For more than two decades, Carthage and the Mahone family have worked side by side in service of students and the broader community,” Dr. Swallow said. “Grounded in a shared commitment to access and educational excellence, this work continues to expand opportunity across our region, and I am honored to help advance that mission as board president.”

Established in 1999, the Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Foundation was created to perpetuate the legacy of two dynamic change agents. While possessing different leadership styles, together Mary Lou and Arthur were an influential couple advocating for social justice in the community.

Today, the Mahone Foundation supports increased access to educational opportunities for economically and academically deserving youth, while supporting healthy lifestyle initiatives in communities of color.

“Snap-on has long been a proud supporter of the Mahone Foundation and its efforts to transform lives in southeast Wisconsin,” Mr. Bond said. “Increased access to education is certainly a priority, as is providing the opportunity for students to make positive life choices.”

Dr. Bryan Albrecht, president emeritus of Gateway Technical College and former president of the Mahone advisory board, sees the leadership updates as strengthening the ongoing vision of Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone.

"President Dr. John Swallow is a champion for increasing access and opportunity for students throughout southeast Wisconsin,” Dr. Albrecht said. “His appointment as president of the Mahone Foundation Board exemplifies the commitment and values he embodies as a servant leader for all who choose education as the pathway to life and career success.

“I have known Michael Bond for many years and worked closely with him on relevant education and training programs to meet the future talent demands for Snap-on. He will be a valued addition to the Mahone Foundation.”
